Indian Firm Given Contract To Build Residential Units In Hulumale’

Indian firm Renaatus Projects Private Limited has been given the contract to build 72 mixed use residential units in Hulhumale’ waterfront area.

  • The agreement between Renaathus – which has built the Maldives National University’s Faculty of Hospitality and undertaken maintenance work on Indhira Gandhi Memorial Hospital – and Housing Development Corporation (HDC) was inked on Wednesday.
  • HDC Managing Director Mohamed Saimaan and Renaatus chairman R P Selvasundaram witnessed the signing ceremony.
  • The project – aimed at providing housing in Hulhumale’ to 7,000 people belonging to the middle class – is slated to be completed within 26 months.

Hulhumale’ – The New Hub of Commercial Activities?

Maldivian government plans to shift a large chunk of population from Male’ to Hulhumale’, a man-made island which is officially a district of the capital city.
“Sixty thousand sq. feet  of land would be leased from Hulhumale this year,” said Mohamed Siman, Managing Director of Housing Development Corporation (HDC).
  • It will include space for Hulhumale’mini-malll,shopping mall and community centre.
  • This will result in an increase in the economic activities in Hulhumale leading to a vast array of job opportunities.
  • According to him projects such as the tree top hospital may prove to be a good opportunity for those in search of jobs.
